Parallel Evolutionary Registration of Range Data
Most range data registration techniques are variants on the iterative closest point (ICP) algorithm, proposed by Chen and Medioni [2] and Besl and McKay [3]. That algorithm, though, is only one approach to optimizing a least-squares point correspondence sum proposed by Arun et al [1]. In its basic form ICP has many problems for example, its reliance on pre-registration by hand close to the glob...
متن کاملSurface Registration Markers from Range Scan Data
We introduce a data processing pipeline designed to generate registration markers from range scan data. This approach uses curvature maps and histogram-templates to identify local surface features. The noise associated with real-world scans is addressed using a (common) Gauss filter and expansion-segmentation. Experimental results are presented for data from The Digital Michelangelo Project.
متن کاملParallel processing of range data merging
This paper describes a volumetric view-merging algorithm that generates a consensus surface of an object from its range images. Our original method merges a set of range images into a volumetric implicit-surface representation, which is converted to a surface mesh by using a variant of the marching-cubes algorithm. We propose a method that increases the computation and memory efficiency for com...
متن کاملOptimal Registration of Object Views Using Range Data
This paper deals with robust registration of object views in the presence of uncertainties and noise in depth data. Errors in registration of multiple views of a 3D object severely aaect view integration during automatic construction of object models. We derive a minimum variance estimator (MVE) for computing the view transformation parameters accurately from range data of two views of a 3D obj...
متن کاملRegistration of Range Data from Unmanned Aerial and Ground Vehicles
In the research reported in this paper, we propose to overcome the unavailability of Global Positioning System (GPS) using combined information obtained froma scanning LADAR rangefinder on an Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) and a LADAR mounted on an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) that flies over the terrain being traversed. The approach to estimate and update the position of the UGV involves regis...
